January blues are over

January blues are over

Last weekend we had a great family event here at the Duncairn: the No More January Blues. The whole venue was buzzing with happy crafty people all day on Saturday and Sunday.

It was lovely to see a lot of families join in and get involved in arts and crafts, alongside those who just came for breakfast in the café. On Saturday, we had something for all: from henna tattoos to caricatures, from crochet to jewellery-making, kids got their faces painted and balloon swords and flowers.

In the meantime in the wellbeing area, people enjoyed free massages and got their nails and eyebrows done. Information about wellbeing, healthy eating, dementia and more was also available at the many stalls. The day was marked by special moments, as one of you told us “I watched two elderly sisters wait to get their nails done, having tea and they had henna tattoos!”. Everyone was having a ball and getting involved as you can see from the photos.

On Sunday all our workshops were fully booked. A great bunch of people got their hands on print-making, mandala painting, sewing, Polish paper cutting, and the art of arranging flowers. Everyone got to bring home their fantastic creations. Everyone was impressed with the level of skills and creativity all of you brought to the table. In the meantime, kids were busy in the Australia hall playing games and getting to know the wee critters.

We received wonderful feedback from all of you and we are really grateful for your kind words. They really inspire us to organise more for this beautiful community!

The event was possible thanks to the support of our big funders: Esmee Fairbairn and Belfast City Council.
