A gentle class focusing on breath led mindful movements, finishing with a nurturing guided relaxation. The class is suitable for anyone over 16 years old.

Please bring a cosy blanket for the relaxation and a yoga mat if you have one – there will be a limited number available at the class.

As this is a drop-in donation-based class, there is no need to book – you just turn up on the night and pay what you can afford.

Playwright, poet and copywriter Aoibh Johnson will facilitate a fantastic six-week programme, which is an introduction to Creative Writing, here at The Duncairn.

If you're a budding writer, eager to receive some guidance from a creative professional, this six-week programme will be invaluable.

Suitable for absolute beginners, these informal classes will introduce participants to the wonder of crochet. 

You will work your way through the most commonly known stitches at your own pace - from chain stitch to the treble stitch. 

With the knowledge and confidence you've gained practising the basic crochet stitches, you will then work towards completing your very own colourful Granny Square. 

And once you've mastered the ever-versatile Granny Square, the options are truly endless - we think you'll be hooked!

We are delighted to have Clare McComish return with a beautiful cross discipline course, her relaxing introduction to Impressionism, acrylic painting, and felting.

Week 1: This will entail a pocket history of Impressionism and Claude Monet.

You will learn how to colour mix, colour theory and experimenting with colour in acrylic paint on multi-use paper.

Week 2: You will be given some samples of images and compositions to paint at the beginning of the session or to use your own. This session will concentrate on building up background colours in acrylic paint.

Week 3: Building in the details of composition and finessing the painting.

Week 4: Taking inspiration from the painting you have created the course will turn to 2D needle felting and begin to reimagine the painting in felt.

Week 5: The felting will continue adding details to your artwork.

Week 6: This week can be spent either finishing off artworks, or if they are completed, trying out still life sketches in chalk pastels.

Over this 6-week course participants will learn not only basic sewing machine skills but will build and develop the confidence to explore the tools needed to make your own individual pieces.  It all begins with the basics - setting up and threading the machine, progressing on to learn all you need to know.

Throughout this course you will learn how to:

- thread a sewing machine and wind a bobbin.

- sew in a straight line and turn corners.

- make different types of seams and hem the edge of a garment.

- insert a zip.

- apply a patch pocket and more...

This great Printmaking course is an introduction to several key intaglio and relief printmaking techniques, covering drypoint printing, tetrapak printing, and mono printing using painterly, drawing and collage methods.

Get wired, get excited and energised with these 5 weeks of experimenting and creating jewellery and decorations using a wide and wonderful range of beautiful wires and beads.

Each week you will accomplish a new project, so it just perfect if you want to do a handmade Christmas!  Alternatively, you may want to make something sparkly to match your Christmas outfits. But whatever your reason, come and join in the Christmas craic whilst learning new skills under the expert eye of our tutor Nikki Terlik.

A step up from our Beginner Course, Bernie’s Improvers will work you through basic sewing patterns and learning cutting skills.

Over the course of the 5 weeks, you will learn how to create a simple garment and gain confidence to alter your own clothes. Patterns will be provided but feel free to bring your own, ensuring it is suitable to your ability.

In week one, Bernie will talk to you about the type of fabric you need to buy for your chosen pattern, which will be needed for week 2 of the class.

Some of the topics covered will be:

- how to cut and pin fabric using a simple pattern.

- how to sew straight seams and finish them.

- how to insert a zip and finish a waistline.

- understanding a sewing pattern including their mysterious language and symbols and much more.

Mathieu’s course is aimed at those new to photography wanting to improve. As the class will be practical in nature, you will need a camera with the ability to change between Program, Aperture, Shutter and Manual mode (PASM), like a DSLR, bridge or mirrorless camera.

You will also need a “can do” attitude and a desire to improve as each week we will learn and practice together. The classes will be entertaining, thought-provoking, and fun.

Mathieu is also happy to provide buying advice for those wanting to get a new camera to start learning with, just get in touch after booking.
