The origins of felt, in essence, is unknown but there are some lovely legends out there illustrating its beginnings. One example of which (wet felting) is a tale of travelling monks plucking the fragments of wool fleece from the hedgerows as they passed, stuffing it into their shoes and as they walked to the friction of their steps, combined with the natural oils of the fleece and the heat and sweat from the foot, molded the fleece into fabric (socks)….the name now given to the fabric we know as Felt. Don’t worry, won’t be asking you to do this!
Kirsty’s course will be a short course in the skill of Needle Felting: in this process you will learn to use a variety of equipment and tools, and learn about the use of colour and textures all of which are needed to make a simple, yet beautiful, piece of 2d felt art work.
