Chloe Dougan's sewing scrubs
Superheroes don’t always wear capes, and sometimes can sew. We know this for sure as there is one here at the Duncairn: Chloe Dougan, our very own textile artist in residence.
Chloe is making news, appearing twice this week on the Belfast Telegraph, for her latest quest: fundraising and sewing scrubs for NHS nurses and doctors to help them face the COVID-19 crisis.
Early this week, Chloe joined a group on Facebook, the NI SCRUBS GROUP, which was created to recruit and coordinate sewers all around Northern Ireland, uniting forces and making a difference while socially isolating. Many people are stuck at home and cannot work, so being able to do something helpful feels rewarding for all those involved and it really makes a difference to health care professionals on the front line. Chloe is now keeping super busy as she’s in charge of ordering fabric, pattern cutting and distribution, finance.
In the meantime, those of us lacking sewing skills have been able to help buy donating money to buy the materials these wonderful sewers need. You can donate too, here is the page: Gofundme NI Fund Fabric for Scrubs.
You can listen to her on BBC Radio Ulster on Sunday show between 11.30-12.
Luckily her boyfriend and Freya the sausage dog are supporting her through all of this.
