girlfriend. and Buí

Presented by Sizeable Bear Promotions

*PLEASE NOTE THIS WILL BE A STANDING SHOW *

Dublin’s girlfriend. make their Belfast debut ahead of the release of their long-awaited debut album with support from local indie folk Buí.

girlfriend. is a 5 piece group of queer women and non-binary people making visceral and emotional alternative rock music. Formed in 2015, the band began as a noisy emo-rock band

playing shows in the local North Dublin area. They recorded their debut 5 track EP ‘3AM Rituals’ as teens in the drummer’s spare room. This EP was met with acclaim by DIY music groups, and thrust them into the Irish music scene where they paved their way as lo-fi rockers. The release of the singles ‘Spitkissing/Small Smile Grow’ in 2018 cemented their vital presence as experimental and impassioned musicians in the local music community. Since their first releases, the band has played countless shows across the country - including opening slots for high profile acts such as Pillow Queens, The Garden and Dream Wife – and now have numerous festival slots under their name such as Electric Picnic and Other Voices.

girlfriend.’s highly anticipated debut album was recorded in Orphan Studios, Wexford and Hellfire Studios, Dublin at the beginning of 2022. Produced by Peter Ashmore (Pillow Queens, Villagers, For Those I Love, We Cut Corners), their debut album will be released early 2023. The band made an explosive return to the live music circuit in 2022, with highlights including selling out their Cork debut headline show, headlining Feile na Greine festival in Limerick and supporting acclaimed U.S. band Mannequin Pussy on the Irish leg of their tour.

Buí is a Belfast-based collaborative project centred around the music of singer songwriter Josh Healy. Debut album “Eugene” was released on the night of the band’sfirst gig back in November 2017. Since then, Buí have toured regularly around Ireland and the UK, playing at festivals including Belfast’s most recent OtherVoices weekend. Buí have played alongside DIY Irish favourites including the likes of Junior Brother, Just Mustard and Bleeding Heart Pigeons since their inception. With the recording of album 2 well underway, Buí have in the meantime focused their minds on the release of EP “Talking To The Walls,” which came out to acclaim on Analogue Catalogue Records. The EP was recorded to analogue tape tape and produced by Julie McLarnon (Frances McKee, Lankum, Jerry Lewis). It was released as a physical only release on the 25th of March, with a digital release coming out the same date in May. Buí’s most recent gigs saw them support American indie legends The Music Tapes (fronted by JulianKoster of Neutral Milk Hotel) at a small run of very special sold out shows in July 2022, one of which was in The Duncairn.Price £7(This event is BYO, so remember to bring your drink).
