At this first 100 Club of 2020, Philip King sits in conversation with The Duncairn’s creative Director Ray Giffen and musician Conor Caldwell. Discussing tradition, translation, transmission, and the growing humanising value of the arts as the world becomes more virtual, augmented and artificial. The questions raised by the rise of surveillance capitalism, the ubiquity of the algorithm, and its attendant threat to liberal democracy are concerning to us all. However, this evening of songs, conversation, poetry and music will be an antidote to our never-ending digital engagement as we savour the talents of piper Mick O’Brien, The Gloaming fiddle afficianado Caoimhín Ó Raghallaigh, and enjoy Philip’s musical companions Sonny Condell and Robbie Overson (performing as Scullion).
